More and more furniture stores and DIY store chains accept the SZÉP Card
More and more large furniture stores and DIY store chains are joining the SZÉP Card acceptance, which enables purchases for home renovation purposes. Most recently, Praktiker announced that customers can now pay with OTP SZÉP Cards at their stores, whether at the cash register or at a self-service terminal, and that the discount can also be used in the web store. The innovation is becoming increasingly widely available, as large chains such as JYSK, Möbelix, Mömax, OBI, Sconto, RS Bútor, Diego, Tüzépek and XXXLutz also accept the card – writes Bank360.hu.
However, the acceptance of the SZÉP Card is not uniform in all cases. Some stores currently only accept cards issued by certain banks. For example, in Praktiker stores, only OTP SZÉP Cards can be used for payment, while OBI, Tüzépek, RS Bútor and Diego stores now also accept K&H and MBH SZÉP Cards. According to experts, it is expected that in time most large chains will support the cards of all three service providers.
What can the SZÉP Card be used for?
The new payment option allows the purchase of numerous home improvement and home renovation products. Up to half of the SZÉP Card balance can be spent on, among other things:
- Tools and machines,
- Building materials, wall and floor coverings,
- Paints, bathroom equipment, hardware,
- Garden furniture, tools, garden machinery.
In addition, furniture, carpets, lighting equipment, small kitchen appliances and other household items can be purchased using the card. The balance can also be used for materials needed for garden construction and landscaping, such as paving stones or other garden tools.
Regulations and restrictions
The experts at Bank360.hu draw attention to the fact that the balance registered on the SZÉP Card on January 1, 2025, as well as the total amount of payments in 2025, can only be used for home renovation purposes. The benefit can only be used for products specified in the law, such as wages or payments to professionals. If a product is added to the cart during the purchase that is not subject to the regulations, it must be paid for separately. The salespeople at the stores will be happy to help you navigate the regulations.
Expanding the acceptance of the SZÉP Card can be a significant relief for those who plan to beautify or renovate their home. Although bank support is not uniform everywhere at the moment, the development of the system is expected to make things even easier for buyers. The opportunity can be used widely, whether it’s for home renovation, furniture purchase or garden construction.
