Growing unemployment in Europe
The number of unemployed broke a negative record in the euro area. In the 17 member countries, the number of registered unemployed was 17.36 million in March – Eurostat announced on Wednesday.
This is the worst data since the introduction of euro. The unemployment rate rose to 10.9 percent from the 10.8 percent of February, the number of job seekers increased by 169 thousand.
According to the statistical office of the union, Spain still leads, where unemployment has reached 24.1 percent and 51.1 percent of the 18-24 age group are looking for a job in vain. Spain is followed by Greece with 21.7 percent, where the youth unemployment rate is the highest in the euro area: 51.2 percent.
According to Eurostat, in the EU-27 in March, 24.8 million people were unemployed, their number increased with 2.1 million since last March, within the euro area increase was 1.7 million. (MTI)
