Roast goose is going to be hellishly expensive this year
Roasting geese has never been a cheap pleasure, and raising geese today still requires a lot of work. However, the low supply of goose meat can also contribute to the fact that we consume less goose meat.
In addition, many people avoid eating goose meat because they have doubts about the origin of the meat and fear that the geese have not been treated properly. Goose meat is not always easy to find in domestic butcher shops. Foie gras has traditionally been a luxury product, and that has not changed today. Moreover, the sale of goose meat decreased in the past year, both in terms of quantity and value. The prices also rose, to HUF 5,080 per kilo, while the average price was HUF 3,170 before. The consumption of goose meat is seasonal and is most popular in the October-December period. Sales are dominated by manufacturer products and have increased at the expense of private label products. Most of the goose meat is prepared in catering, especially around St. Martin’s Day. Traditional goose dishes are still sought after by guests today, but due to the fatty nature of goose meat, it is not always popular. However, fine dining restaurants also offer new creations. New wine is also a popular drink around St. Martin’s Day, especially with goose dishes. The new wine selection is varied and goes well with the goose.
