Cheese theft is becoming more and more common in the Netherlands
Thieves are increasingly damaging Dutch milk producers and cheese sellers, the damage amounts to tens of thousands of euros every year, said Wim Meure-Buren, president of the Dutch milk producers’ association, Boerderijzuivelbond, speaking to the Dutch broadcaster RTL Nieuws on Friday.
Wim Meure-Buren said in a televised statement – viewed by Dutch News, an English-language Dutch internet portal – that Dutch cheese has become an attractive product for thieves, and cheese theft has become a real problem in the Netherlands in the last few years.
According to his information, in 2022, thieves stole 1,600 kilos of cheese worth 21,000 euros (about HUF 8.4 million) from the Fijnaart dairy farm in the Noord Brabant region of the Netherlands. A whole round cheese can cost up to 100-150 euros, he noted.
