Food has become more and more expensive in Hungary in recent years
While in July 2020, compared to the same period of the previous year, the price of food increased by 7.8%, this seemed to moderate by 2021, when the price increase was only 3.1%. Since then, however, prices have skyrocketed, as by July 2022, food prices had risen by around 27% compared to the period a year earlier.
Food prices have risen continuously in recent years, but while the price increase was in the single digits between 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 (7.8% and 3.1%), according to the data of the Central Statistical Office (KSH), in July 2022 the price of food will be 27 % rose in Hungary compared to the previous year. However, according to experts from the Agricultural Sector, the price increases are far from over, what’s more, another wave of price increases can be expected in the fall.
