Potato prices are rising
The price of potatoes are increasing explosively since last autumn. Compared to the previous year now 40-50 percent have to be paid for potatoes – Népszabadság Online wrote on the basis of the data of the Agricultural Economics Research Institute.
The retail price of potatoes is around 170-190 HUF nowadays and extremely fluctuated in the previous years. The market participants primarily explained this fluctuation with the weather: if summer is dry, fewer potatoes grow, while in wetter years, much more and due to the summer drought, less potatoes were produced across Europe while the irrigation costs have increased.
