Aldi pledges to donate one million meals over summer
Aldi is doubling down on its charity initiatives by pledging to donate over one million meals to families in need over the summer holiday period.
The discounter is teaming up with community giving platform Neighbourly to give out surplus food from its stores to charities and food banks, Grocery Gazette reports.
The retailer is building on its commitment to assisting the community, already having donated over 8.8 million meals this year.
Aldi had also launched a voucher scheme recently to support parents with children during the summer school holidays.
Luke Emery, National Sustainability Director at Aldi UK, said: “We are proud to continue supporting incredible causes across the country this summer, helping to provide fresh, wholesome food to those who need it most.
“School holidays can be a challenging time for many families, and this summer we’re continuing our efforts to provide support where we can through our partnership with Neighbourly.”
Additionally, consumers can participate in the donation drives by giving community donation points in Aldi stores across the UK.
Steve Butterworth, CEO of Neighbourly, added: “Summer holidays represent one of the busiest times of the year for charities and food banks, and we expect no less this year.
“Aldi’s generous donations play a key role in helping support families, and our partnership continues to make a meaningful difference to those who need it most.”
As part of its charity pledges, Aldi also increased its fundraising amount for the Teenage Cancer Trust to £20 million by 2031, up from £15 million by 2027.
