Equality on the price tag: feminine hygiene products are 27% cheaper on foodora on the occasion of International Women’s Day
Timed for International Women’s Day, foodora is reducing the price of 25 feminine hygiene products by 27% in foodora Market stores. The national initiative aims to draw attention to the “pink tax” phenomenon and provide tangible help to hundreds of thousands of women in Hungary. Libresse, a brand specializing in intimate hygiene products, has also joined this initiative.
Being a woman costs a lot. Products for women often cost more than the same or similar products for men – a phenomenon widely known as the “pink tax”.
This year, foodora is taking concrete steps to close this gap: the prices of feminine hygiene products are being reduced in Hungarian foodora Markets in 5 major cities across the country. Consumers will be able to buy pads, tampons and other hygiene products for exactly 27% less in the coming month.
Libresse has also joined the initiative, providing educational social content to help a wider range of consumers experience what it would be like if we thought of feminine hygiene products not as a luxury, but as a basic necessity, and priced them accordingly.
“This is not just a price cut, but a value-based statement against the “Pink Tax”. At foodora, as an employer, we also consider equal opportunities to be particularly important – however, many people only acknowledge a value until it costs money. The pink tax is not a tradition, but a mistake. In our opinion, being a woman is a privilege, not a luxury, and these products should be priced accordingly. With this symbolic step, we would like to emphasize affordability in addition to speed and convenience, providing tangible financial assistance to hundreds of thousands of women in Hungary. Our goal is to set a commercial precedent.
– said Péter Garay, CEO of foodora.
“Libresse’s mission is to initiate honest and open dialogue and to explore topics related to the female body and femininity that have been considered taboo until now. One such phenomenon is the “Pink Tax”, which makes menstruation a disproportionate financial burden for women. That is why we are happy to join an initiative that not only talks about it, but also takes concrete steps against it. For us, this is not only a collaboration, but an important step towards a change in attitude. We believe that feminine hygiene products should be easily accessible to everyone, and we hope to see more and more similar initiatives.”
– added Eszter Hegedűs, Senior Brand Manager of Libresse Hungary.
The “Equality on the price tag with us beginsA communication campaign will also be launched during the month of March along the slogan.
Foodora users can order online from foodora Market in 5 major cities (Budapest, Debrecen, Győr, Pécs, Szeged), in addition to women’s products, fresh food or household products, with delivery within 60 minutes.
