HUF 1 billion development in Esztergom cellar system
The project includes the renovation of the 3.7-km-long cellar system, which will receive a new entrance, a tourist welcome centre, a café and wine tasting room.
The Incoronata, the Cultural Centre
of Matthias Church, has been awarded more than HUF 772 million (3
million euros) funding from the New Hungary Development Plan for the
renovation and preservation of the historical buildings around the
Basilica in Esztergom and the development of tourist attractions.
The cellars will also display an
exhibition featuring the Hungarian wine regions and an interactive
exhibition presenting wine-making methods and tools. The former
restaurant located in the cellar will also be renewed. Works are
expected to finish by early 2010.
