A continent goes shopping
The African consumers are served poorly and pay too much – Frank Braeken head of Unilever Africa states. Until recently, those South Africans, who desired for shampoo or cosmetics, that are specially manufactured for African hair or black skin had to buy mostly U.S. import goods. The Unilever saw the opportunity and its Motions shampoo and conditioner series became a great success.
The Anglo-Dutch consumer products maunufacturer giant are making great efforts to produce consumer goods to the African consumers: affordable food, water efficient washing powder and shampoo or cosmetics, proper to local tastes.
The company also supports businesses. The Motions Academy was opened in Johannesburg last year, training 5000 barbers who will open their own shop. The Academy is not just an educational institution but it is also a laboratory where new products and business models are tested. (MTI-Press)
