Almost 200: a new Tesco store opened in Balatonalmádi

Tesco’s new 290-square-meter store was opened at Balatonfűzfői út 55 in Balatonalmádi, on the northern shore of our largest lake, increasing the number of stores in its network to 199. The Expressz store offers a selection of over 3,500 products, including daily shopping items as well as ready-to-eat sandwiches and salads, chilled drinks, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, low-salt, low-sugar and low-fat products that support conscious nutrition, premium foods and locally baked goods. The new Tesco will also carry essential summer essentials such as beach equipment and patio furniture, in a range that takes into account the needs of both local residents and holidaymakers.

Expanding Balaton network

“Last year, we renovated 40 of our stores, opened two new stores – in Velence and on Pozsonyi út in the 13th district of Budapest – and handed over our new, 100,000 square meter, modern and environmentally friendly logistics center in Szigetszentmiklós. In addition, we achieved a 30 percent growth in our online channel, so the Tesco Otthonról service is now available in more than 990 settlements for nearly 3 million households. This year, we will focus on expanding smaller units, one of the defining milestones of which is our new store in Balatonalmád, which is the 7th in our series of stores on the Balaton shore and the 10th in the Balaton area. I am sure that this investment worth 210 million forints will provide further impetus to soon increase the number of Tesco stores to around 200. the number of stores”

Balatonalmádi Expressz awaits its customers with a team of 14 people (including 12 local and regional colleagues), a quality selection and regular discounts and loyalty points. Two traditional and two self-service checkouts ensure the most convenient shopping.

Special attention to the environment and communities

“We converted the store, which previously operated as an entertainment venue, to our own needs in just 3 months, of which 2 months were spent on static and demolition work. We installed energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the store, and we provide cooling and heating with low-consumption air conditioning, thus reducing our environmental footprint. I am proud of our team, which made it possible for us to open in 2025, so that our carefully selected, quality holiday offerings are also easily accessible to those living in Balatonalmádi and its surrounding area”

Tesco is also trying to provide more every day, not only to our customers, but also to the communities where its stores operate and where its customers and employees live. Accordingly, the supermarket chain has included its new Balatonalmád store in the national food rescue program from day one, and through its partner organization, the Food Bank, it donates unsold food to charity. At the end of the day, the remaining items that are still suitable for human consumption are collected by colleagues and donated to the Gondos Panni Family and Child Welfare Center and Social Service, who use them to help people, families and groups in need due to social, mental or health reasons in the area.
