Winter and the holiday season provide an excellent opportunity to travel with the family and indulge in our favorite winter sports, either at home or abroad, or just to escape from the gray weather and bake our bellies in an exotic place. Whether we want a snowy or a sunny place, according to the trends, the desire to travel is increasing not only in the summer, but also in the winter months.
According to KSH statistics, between January and March this year, Hungarians traveled abroad 4.4 million times, 29 percent more than in the period a year earlier. In terms of foreign countries, travelers spent the largest amount (a total of HUF 56 billion) in Austria, which is one of the most popular destinations for Hungarians when it comes to winter sports. At Allianz Hungária, the number of travel insurance policies specifically for winter sports increased by almost 60 percent in January this year compared to the previous year, and among the winter months, most people travel in this month.
According to Allianz travel insurance statistics, 94 percent of people travel within Europe in winter, typically in the months of January and February, to indulge in winter sports (almost 60 percent of those who take out travel insurance). The 30-60-year-old age group travels in the largest proportion during this period, among them mainly 30-45-year-olds.
