As part of the series of events of the 34th Budafok Champagne and Wine Festival, Bonn Park was inaugurated in Budafok. Ferenc Karsay, mayor of Budafok-Tétény, Jochen Reeh-Schall, mayor of the Bonn district of the city of Bonn, and member of parliament Zsolt Németh, chairman of the foreign affairs committee, spoke at the ceremony.

In the spring of 2023, in the Bonn district of the German city of Bonn, the town’s newest park was named after Budafok. In return for this, we have now opened Bonn Park in Budafok in honor of the sister city relationship that has existed since 1991. The location of the Bonn park is the Elágázás park, realized from the district’s Participatory Budget, which also includes a streetball court, an inclusive playground, an outdoor fitness park, and a basketball court. In his speech, Ferenc Karsay highlighted that with the inauguration, we are celebrating a relationship with a long history, which bears the epithet “brother” for a reason. When choosing the location, it was an important aspect that the two main characteristics of the park are activity and inclusion, which also characterize the connection between Bonn and Budafok. Even after three decades, meetings and collaborations between our neighborhoods are regular. Jochen Reeh-Schall, the mayor of the Bonn district of the city of Bonn, emphasized: we meet every year, sometimes in Budafok, sometimes in Bonn, to discuss municipal tasks and find new opportunities for the development of cooperation. Member of Parliament Zsolt Németh, chairman of the foreign affairs committee, pointed out that the soul of the Swabians here is also the twin city relationship with Budapest. Naming this park in Budafoki after Bonn shows that we believe in the future of this relationship: Europe is our common cause and our common home. At the opening ceremony, the mayors of our other two sister cities, Barót and Mezőkaszony, paid their respects, XXII. the chairman of the district German National Self-Government, as well as honorary citizens of Budafok-Tétény, as well as representatives of local civil organizations.
