Thirty-two hyper – supermarkets and discounts, and 18 drugstores opened this year
The main criterion in the choosing of shops is to find a store where the customers can find everything they need.
By the end of 2007, 1016 hypermarkets, supermarkets and discounts were operating. At the end of 2008 this number was: 1116. This year has 32 new stores opened, and 18 new units added to the drugstore chains. The number of traditional supermarkets decreased by 1400 to 19 935, largely as a result of changes in shopping habits. The most affected stores are the small businesses with 50 square meters footprint. While the supermarket and the average discount increased sales increased, the turnover of the traditional small shops decreased by 8 percent. The trends show that consumers are choosing shops due to comfort reasons. It is important, that the business should be found near the place of the residence.
