E.Coli Outbreak in Scotland
One person died, and two others were hospitalized. A new case of e.coli was confirmed in Ireland, where a woman was hospitalized.
William Morrison Supermarkets Plc, the U.K. food retailer
that bought rival Safeway Plc in 2004, withdrew sliced cold meats from two
Scottish stores as health officials investigate a fatal outbreak of e.coli.
Food sellers found to be the source of e.coli infection
could be liable under U.K. law because suppliers of defective products are
responsible for injuries caused by the goods.
Cadbury Schweppes Plc was fined $2 million by a U.K. court
this month after the company said traces of salmonella were found in chocolate
bars in June 2006.
