Fungus production could be doubled
According to the latest summary of the Hungarian Horticultural Council, fungus production improved significantly. The production can be doubled, it is expandable to at least 50-70 thousand tons, and employment in the sector can be also increased to 8-10 thousand, from the current 3-5 thousand.
The council believes that with the increasing of the proportion of quality products, production value could reach 35-40 billion HUF a year, compared to the current 12-13 billion HUF.
The key to exploit the opportunities is that domestic consumption of mushrooms should be increased from an annual 1.5 kilograms per capita to 3 kilograms, while exports should be expanded from 25 to 40 thousand tons. (MTI)
