Next year, Mobility Package I will bring drastically longer waiting times
European international transport of passengers and goods will soon say goodbye to analogue tachographs and outdated, old digital tachographs: for a few months, new vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons can only be registered for international transport with Smart 2 smart tachographs, and then in vehicles already in circulation it is also mandatory to switch to a smart tachograph device. Due to the upcoming deadline of December 31, 2024, you can expect drastically longer waiting times in tachograph workshops, and failure to replace can result in heavy fines – contractors who schedule the rebuilding of tachographs now will do well.
What does Mobility Package I mean?
The 1st Mobility Package was adopted by the European Parliament on July 9, 2020, after a 3-year period full of long and intense debates. The far-reaching, decades-old package of logistics provisions basically has 3 main goals: improving the safety and working conditions of drivers, ensuring free market competition and establishing sustainable business practices. The regulations contained in it entered into force in stages, in several steps, and are entering into force, the first changes have been in effect since August 2020.
In separate passages and decrees, the reform regulates irregularities related to the dispatch time and wages of drivers, as well as the maximum working and rest time. Cabotage operations are also subject to uniform regulations, according to which a maximum of 3 such operations can be carried out within 7 days, and vehicles in international transport must return to their own location at a maximum of 8 weeks.
