The price increase at Lake Balaton is drastic
The prices of accommodation around Lake Balaton have increased by an average of 10% this year compared to the previous year, but the most popular settlements have experienced much higher price increases. In Balatonalmádi, for example, accommodation prices rose by nearly 29% compared to the 2023 period. Based on the data of one of the largest Hungarian accommodation portals, reservations are typically made in July and August, but this year, last-minute reservations are also becoming more common.
Based on the data of Szallas.hu, in 2024, calculated from the gross room revenue and guest nights, the average booking price per person is HUF 12,429, which means an increase of almost 10% compared to last year. Balatonalmádi is at the forefront of price increases, where last year’s HUF 11,198/person/night price rose to HUF 14,421, which means an increase of 28.78%. The increase in prices can also be observed in the most popular Balaton settlements: Balatonfüred and Keszthely went up by 17.31% and 15.48% compared to last year.
The price of apartments increased the most, by 11.31%, from HUF 9,503/person/night to HUF 10,578/person/night. In the case of hotels and boarding houses, the rate of growth remained below 7%. Most of the Balaton summer bookings are for July (47%) and August (34%), but last minute bookings are a strong trend this year, when the majority of bookings are made close to the travel date, with a time window of about 1 month or less.
