In 2025, the prices of Christmas sweets in Germany have risen significantly. According to data from the price comparison app Smhaggle, chocolate Santas are up to 25% more expensive, while filled gingerbread hearts have seen price increases of up to 60% compared to last year.

The price increase of molded chocolate figures largely depends on the product’s size and brand — a 70-gram milk chocolate Santa from a well-known brand can cost up to €3.99, while similar items from other manufacturers are available for €2.99. A 250-gram pack of domino cookies is about 25% more expensive than in 2024, and 300 grams of filled gingerbread hearts now cost over €3—regardless of brand.

In response to Lebensmittelpraxis, the German Confectionery Industry Association noted that retailers, not manufacturers, set the final prices. Although cocoa prices have slightly decreased, they remain two to three times higher than three years ago due to poor harvest expectations last year.

Market research firm NIQ reported that by mid-October, 10% fewer Christmas sweets had been sold in Germany compared to the previous year. However, revenue remained stable due to higher prices. Notably, more consumers are turning to special offers: while 46% of sweets were bought on promotion at this time in 2024, that figure has now jumped to 66%.
