Strawberry prices may increase
The April frost damage caused significant damages to the outdoor plantations. The damage may be even 30 percent nationwide – Magyar Idők wrote, quoting Ledó Ferenc, President of the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organisation and Product Board (FruitVeB).
According to the expert, in Somogy County, where most of the strawberry fields are located, up to 60-80 percent of the crops might destroyed. He added that if after the the cold weather is followed by a rainy period, strawberries will rot and it is possible that there will be a deficit of high-quality Hungarian strawberries, which will certainly affect the prices.
