The domestic poultry market is characterized by rising prices and a decrease in imports
The Hungarian poultry sector showed a dual trend in the first half of 2025: while the processing price of chicken breast fillet increased by 14 percent and bone-in chicken breast by 10 percent on an annual basis, the volume of poultry meat imports fell by more than a third, Agrárszektor points out.
Exports show a mixed picture: chicken meat exports increased by 9 percent, while turkey meat decreased by the same proportion. The main export destination remains Romania, while most imports came from Poland.
At the international level, according to the USDA forecast, US chicken meat production may increase by 2 percent in the third quarter of 2025, while turkey meat may decline by 4 percent. A similar shift is expected in domestic consumption: per capita chicken meat consumption may increase by 2 percent, while demand for turkey meat may decrease by 6 percent.
Poultry meat exports to the EU market rose by 1% in the first four months to 682,000 tonnes, while imports rose by 13% to 342,000 tonnes. Three-quarters of imports came from Brazil, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. Brazil’s declaration of bird flu-free status gave a new boost to the South American country’s exports to the EU, which rose by 20.8% in the year to June, bringing in $386 million in revenue for the sector.
