Carrots are expensive in Poland due to the poor harvest
In October, there was a significant price increase on the carrot market in Poland, after the Central Statistical Office (GUS) revised downwards its forecasts for this year’s crop Agrárszektor writes.
According to the new estimate, only 555,000 tons of carrots are expected in 2024, which is 4% less than last year’s 580,000 tons and 30% less than the peak year of 2017.
In addition to carrots, other vegetables, such as beets, are expected to have a similarly poor harvest. According to FruitVeB’s report, this year’s vegetable season will be special in that the autumn seasonal price drop may not be the case for several vegetables. The weak harvest and the changed market trends are caused by the weather-related yield reduction.
The current correction exacerbates the fall in yields predicted in the July forecast. Experts say prices could rise further if the production outlook does not improve.
