Wheat and corn prices are rising: latest market data from AKI
In Hungary, in the second week of August, table wheat was traded at an average producer price of 77 thousand forints/ton excluding VAT and transport costs – 1 percent higher than a year earlier – according to the latest data from AKI PÁIR.
Feed wheat traded at a price of 72.5 thousand forints/ton, which represents a 6 percent increase, while the price of feed corn was 75.4 thousand forints/ton, 3 percent more than in the same period in 2024.
There is also lively movement on international markets: the September wheat quotation on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange was in the range of 183–189 dollars/ton, and on the Paris Stock Exchange it was in the range of 193–197 euros/ton. At the same time, corn was trading between $146-153/ton in Chicago and €187-190/ton in Paris.
According to the USDA forecast, this year’s world wheat harvest could be 807 million tons, which is 7 million tons more than the previous season, while consumption could be 810 million tons. A global corn harvest of 1,289 million tons is expected in the 2025/2026 marketing year, which is 5 percent more than last year.
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, in Hungary, farmers harvested 5.4 million tons of wheat this year with an average yield of 5.6 tons/hectare, while experts from Stratégie Grains expect a corn harvest of 4.1 million tons, which is a 23 percent drop compared to the previous year.
