Demand shifted towards more expensive segments
On the HUF 13 billion annual tea market retail trends differ from the general trend: consumers are not trying to economise. In May 2009-April 2010 tea retail sales grew by 9 percent in value, while volume sales decreased by 2 percent. Consumers buy more from more expensive teas, herbal and green teas expanded their market share and their absolute sales augmented too. The biggest and at the same time the cheapest segment is traditional black tea, which lost 1 percentage point of its market share.
