More expensive vegetable but cheaper animal-origin products
In June 2016 agricultural production prices increased by 1.5 percent from the level of June 2015 – reported the Central Statistical Office (KSH). This rise was driven by the price of vegetable products growing by 3.5 percent. Livestock/products of animal origin prices fell 1.8 percent from the base period level.
Compared with June 2015, the price of cereal crops augmented by 8.7 percent. Wheat’s price was down 10 percent but corn’s price was up 24 percent. Fruits cost 6.9 percent more and the price of vegetables rose 4.1 percent. Livestock’s production price increased by 1.2 percent, while products of animal origin cost 9 percent less.
