Donald Trump has threatened heavy tariffs on alcohol products from the European Union in response to the EU’s announced tariffs on American whiskey
US President Donald Trump threatened to impose heavy tariffs on alcohol products exported from the European Union to the United States on Thursday in response to the European Union’s tariffs on American whiskey.
The president announced his intention to impose a 200 percent tariff on all wine, champagne and spirits imported from the EU on his social media account Truth Social if Europe does not immediately drop its plan to impose a 50 percent tariff on American whiskey.
In his post, Donald Trump called the European Union “one of the most hostile and damaging tax and tariff powers in the world,” and reiterated his view that the EU was “created for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the United States.”
The EU announced the tariffs on American alcohol imports after the United States imposed a new 25 percent tariff on steel and aluminum imports on Wednesday.
