A smoking ban came into effect on Monday at all beaches in the city of Barcelona.

“Every year in Spain, five million cigarette butts end up in the sea,” argued Eloi Badia, councilor responsible for climate emergency and ecological transition of the municipality, in favor of the measure, stressing that it takes at least ten years for tobacco waste to decompose. (MTI)
