Tobacco Producers: WHO’s proposal threatens the living of twenty thousand Hungarians
The Hungarian tobacco growers are concerned about WHO's recent proposal that is calling for a reduction in tobacco production, because they see that the proposal threatens the living of twenty thousand people in the Hungarian tobacco sector.
Bényei Illés, President of the Hungarian Association of Tobacco Producers (MADOSZ) responded to the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) draft of the World Health Organization (WHO) in a communication on Monday.
The President of MADOSZ mentioned those proposals that would prohibit the long-term contracting between tobacco producers and purchasers as examples that would affect the Hungarian tobacco producers badly. The proposal would arbitrary limit the size of the production area in some states and would specify the period in which the land should be cultivated. The WHO would also terminate those quality assurance requirements, which provide competitive advantage for the European tobacco.
