The frosts after Easter decimated the watermelon plantations, but the farmers replanted, and so there is already reason to be optimistic about the melon production – Göcző Mátyás, president of the Association of Hungarian Melon Growers told Kossuth Radio.

The weather this year was not good in several respects, and farmers were unable to plant early due to the low temperatures in April, he added.

As he said, even at present, cold weather at night can cause problems. Nevertheless – through the new cultivation technologies used by the individual producers – from the middle of June the Hungarian watermelon will also appear in the shops and markets. (MTI)
