Beer with melon? Or how do Hungarians cool themselves off in the heat?
More people choose air conditioning to relieve the heat at home than chilled melons or ice-cold beer – according to the latest online survey by Pepita.hu. However, the application of well-proven practices remains popular. The survey participants are planning to renovate their gardens and homes this summer, but the budget is narrower this year than last year. Most people purchase the materials, tools and equipment needed for renovation in online stores.
In the latest survey by Pepita.hu, we asked our customers what they think is necessary to make time spent at home pleasant even in the heat. The most votes came for cooling the rooms (with air conditioning, mobile air conditioning or a fan), followed by consuming cooling foods and drinks, then a refreshing oasis in the yard (garden plants, pool, garden furniture, etc.), and darkening the building came in 4th place. Good cheer and humor, pleasant company, garden parties and house parties also received votes, but it is understandable that this is not the solution for customers. In addition to using well-proven practices to relieve the heat, such as chilled melons and ice-cold beer, most respondents plan to buy a pool, jacuzzi and air conditioning.
“The heat arrived earlier this year, so those wishing to cool down started preparing earlier for the period before and after the holiday. Customers spent more than twice as much on garden pools in June this year as last year. Demand for air conditioners, mobile air conditioners and fans was nearly 63% higher,”
– stated Máté Papp, head of growth at Pepita Group.
Among the purchase plans, shutters, blinds, blackout curtains, fans are included in almost the same proportion as swing beds, sun loungers, hanging chairs, or even pergolas, parasols and sun sails. Garden showers, steam doors, other garden furniture, mobile air conditioners, ice cream makers, garden lighting and garden grills and ovens are also included in a large number on the shopping lists. Nearly three quarters of the respondents are willing to spend a maximum of 100,000 HUF on these products in total.
