Dynamic growth at poultry stock
Between 1st April and 1st August 2008 the stock of both cattle and pigs increased. The number of sheep decreased, the stock of poultry – except for the number of turkeys – rose, while the number of horses has not changed.
The number of cattle was 702 thousand
on 1st August 2008, 14 thousand less and 7 thousand more than a year and 4 months before,
respectively. The cow stock (325 thousand) was unchanged during the last year. The number of pigs was 3.7 million on
1st August, 411 thousand less than a year earlier. The stock has increased by 51 thousand since
April. The number of breeding sows (246 thousand) fell by 9 thousand in the last four months, and
by 32 thousand compared to the stock surveyed in August 2007.
The sheep stock was almost 1.3 million
at the beginning of August, 16 thousand less than a year before and 37 thousand lower than on
1st August 2007. The number of ewes did not reach one million,
declining by 3 thousand in one year and 21 thousand in the past four
months.
The stock of horses was 58 thousand; it
has not essentially changed during the last year.
The number of gallinaceous birds was 38
million in August, 2.9 million more than one year earlier. Compared to the survey carried
out on 1st April 2008, the size of the stock increased by nearly 800
thousand. The stock of laying hens was half million higher than a
year before and 1.1 million less than four months earlier, thus it
was equal to 13 million on 1st August.
The goose stock was 3.1 million on 1st
August 2008, 650 thousand more than in August last year. The stock of ducks (3.6 million) was
360 thousand higher, while the turkey stock (4 million) 517 thousand lower in number than a year
