DS Smith’s sustainable industrial packaging won an award at the global WorldStar Awards
DS Smith, a leading supplier of sustainable packaging solutions among the world’s best. The company won an award in the transit category at the WorldStar Awards organized by the World Packaging Association for its industrial packaging.
The packaging industry is one of the main processors of the so-called virgin materials, 40% of the plastics used in the EU and 50% of the paper provide resources for the production of packaging materials. In terms of consumer habits, an average European resident produces 180 kg of packaging waste per year. Thus, it is particularly important what kind of packaging material reaches users, stores, and supply chains, and how the packaging materials are handled after use, and in what proportion they are recycled. In the case of paper-based packaging, the recycling rate is 84.2%, which significantly contributes to ensuring that valuable materials remain in use for as long as possible, mitigating the environmental impact.
DS Smith aims to redefine packaging in a changing world. To this end, it provides innovative, sustainable packaging solutions to its partners, offering an effective alternative to replacing problematic plastics. During the product development of its ship navigation system, Raymarine was looking for a more environmentally friendly solution to replace the previous foam-based packaging material. In the case of such sensitive goods, it is critical to design packaging that provides adequate protection, and since the manufacturer transports its products to different parts of the world, it is essential that it stands up to various climatic conditions and is resistant even in the case of road, air and water transport. .
