A digital treasure trove for monument lovers – e-orokseg.hu has been launched
Never before has Hungary’s built heritage been so spectacularly and easily accessible as it is now on the new, interactive database, the e-orokseg.hu website. The joint development of the Ministry of Construction and Transport (ÉKM) and the Lechner Knowledge Center uniquely combines the traditions of monument protection with the technological possibilities of the digital age.
More than 15 thousand monuments in one place
All of our country’s monuments – more than 15 thousand built heritage elements in number – have become available on the modern interface, along with detailed data, photos, three-dimensional models and historical background. The site not only functions as a registry, but also serves as a community, information and educational platform that contributes to the knowledge, protection and rediscovery of monuments.
The spectacular, user-friendly map search makes browsing easier: users can filter by county, settlement, architectural period or keyword, so they can plan their next trip specifically by searching for a Gothic church or an industrial monument.
Gigapixel photos, 3D models and interactive tour planning
The website offers three-dimensional models of more than 240 monuments, which can even be walked around virtually. With the help of gigapixel and stereo photos, the frescoes and facade details of 80 highlighted monuments can be studied in unprecedented quality.
The system has also been expanded with an interactive tour planning function, so that the monuments can not only be admired, but also organized into routes, thus supporting cultural tourism and on-site experiences.
