Digital Revolution in rabbit meat production: the innovative project of Tetrabbit and the University of Veterinary Medicine has been successfully concluded
Digitalization is transforming all areas of life. It is now clear to everyone that whether we can enter this new era is a matter of life in animal breeding as well. However, digitization does not only mean that we use digital tools: the information must be processed, and only by learning and understanding the results of long and complicated calculations that are impossible for the human mind can we shape our thinking and decisions in such a way that we can achieve the expected success.
Tetrabbit Kft., the operator of the largest and most modern rabbit slaughterhouse in the Central European region, and the University of Veterinary Medicine, the only veterinary training institution in Hungary, launched a research and development project in 2021 to implement the digitization of the entire rabbit meat production vertical with the support of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office. The my-rabbit.eu system developed during the implementation of the joint project is the first and so far the only IT system in the world that fully covers large-scale rabbit meat production. During the steps of the production cycle, workers fill out digital forms on smartphones; body weights and litter weights are measured with a scale that can communicate with smartphones; industrial computers measure the environmental parameters in the barns, and software controls the building engineering equipment based on the measured data and the set target parameters. During the processing of rabbits for slaughter, immediate information can be obtained about the slaughter yield, the quantity of prepared products, the data of the automatic scale built into the slaughter line, and individual body weight data.
