Lidl to introduce digital deposit receitps in Germany
From August 4, 2025, Lidl will introduce digital bottle deposit receipts across all its stores in Germany.
With the new system, customers can automatically store the refund amount for returned bottles in the Lidl Plus app and redeem it directly there.
The company emphasizes that shoppers will still have a choice between traditional paper receipts and the new digital option.
Florian Späth, Managing Director for Customer Sales at Lidl Germany, highlighted that the solution aims to combine environmental protection with customer convenience. By this step, customers do not need to keep paper receipts, and users can check their available deposit refunds anytime in the app.
The digital deposit receipt was tested in several stores ahead of the nationwide rollout by Lidl that has been offering digital checkout receipts in its app since 2019.
