Hungary’s largest producer and sales cooperative is opening a new chapter in domestic vegetable sales. The Southern Plains Gardeners’ Cooperative (DélKerTÉSZ) has launched its webshop and its own sample store, which makes it even easier to purchase fresh, quality Hungarian vegetables. Customers can shop in person at the Szentes store or order nationwide with a few clicks, and the products will arrive directly at their home — quickly, conveniently and reliably. In the online offer, they can choose from pre-assembled three- and five-kilogram boxes filled with fresh, seasonal tomatoes and peppers.

DélKerTÉSZ vegetables have been present in the offer of major supermarket chains for years, and since 2024, on the shelves of their own sample store, Lecsó Liget. The aim of the webshop, launched in the summer, is to make fresh, domestic vegetables available from Szentes to any point in the country, in addition to local shops and supermarkets. An inspiring knowledge community has also formed around the webshop, where dietitian Vivien Enyingi regularly shares seasonal recipes, nutritional advice and useful articles on why and how it is worth smuggling more fresh vegetables into your everyday life.

The aim of opening the webshop is not only to create a new sales channel, but also an opportunity to establish a more direct connection between producers and consumers. When there is more and more talk about where food comes from, what is in it and what path it took to the store shelf, it is especially important to have a choice.

The journey of peppers from foil to the family table

Peppers – such as TV peppers, capsicum, pritamin or sharp peppers – are just as much a part of the producers’ everyday lives as they are of homemade lecsó or breakfast sandwiches. The same is true for tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage and other seasonal vegetables.

“The strength of our cooperative lies in family farms spanning generations, where quality, freshness and sustainability are not just words, but everyday values. The name Szentes has become so intertwined with paprika that Szentesi Paprika is protected by a geographical indication and has been officially a Hungaricum since 2021. But behind the fame lies the quiet, everyday work: foils heated with thermal water, biological plant protection, continuous monitoring and expert advice. And in the background, we are working to create not only a market for our members, but also a supportive community,”

emphasized Sándor Nagypéter, president of DélKertÉSZ.
