Insights into retail in South East Europe
FMCG retail trends are the most positive in the region in CROATIA. Croatia has been an EU member state since last July – and that was just the time when the formerly negative sales trend (started in the second half of 2012) turned around. It is noteworthy that average prices reduced by 1.2 percent in August-December 2013 from the same period of 2012. In the UKRAINE sales of FMCG products rose 3 percent in volume and were up 10 percent in value in August-December 2012. In April 2013 the growth slowed down and in August-December 2013 value sales augmented by 1 percent, with volume sales falling 2 percent. In SLOVENIA there was growth in 2012 but 2013 brought a decline: in August-December 2013 FMCG turnover plunged by 5 percent in terms of both value and volume. In BULGARIA Nielsen measured plus 2 percent in value and volume sales alike in the FMCG market in April-August 2012, but in April-December 2012 value sales decreased by 5 percent and volume sales plunged by 6 percent.
