Delhaize to open on all seven Cora sites
The seven sites where the Cora hypermarkets operate for now, will be filled by Delhaize supermarkets starting early next year. It will join toy store chain Dreamland in all seven sites after the demise of the Cora hypermarkets.
The supermarkets will each be approximately 2,000 sqm in size and, like all Delhaize stores, will be operated by affiliated partners, Retail Detail reports. In total, the new stores should create 300 additional jobs, as well as strengthen the retailer’s market position. Six locations are new for the chain; in Hornu, an existing store will move to the Cora site. As was previously announced, Cora will cease activities in Belgium early 2026.
“This significant expansion of our store network confirms Delhaize’s ambition to continue to grow and offer a better service and shopping experience to its customers. Together with our affiliated partners, I am convinced that these stores will be a great success”, Delhaize CEO Xavier Piesvaux added.
Toy store chain Dreamland will also open a large new store on each of the sites. Real estate developer Mitiska REIM is investing over eighty million euros in the redevelopment of the sites.
