The best Hungarian restaurants will receive their Michelin awards on December 10th
This year, the MICHELIN Guide will once again announce at a ceremonial awards ceremony which Hungarian restaurants have won the awards of the world’s leading gastronomic guide. There are only two weeks left to find out which Hungarian restaurants are worthy of the well-known star, Michelin recommendation or a visit based on their value for money and quality, based on the assessments of the strict judges. The new Hungarian edition of the MICHELIN Guide will be available for gourmets and gastrotourists to browse in printed form in early 2025.
The domestic evaluations of the MICHELIN Guide clearly show the enormous journey that Hungarian gastronomy has taken in the past decades. The first Hungarian restaurant received a Michelin star in 2010, and today nine can boast this recognition, and two catering establishments have earned two of them. With this result, our country also does well in regional comparison, as the Czech Republic, for example, can claim only two one-star restaurants, and Poland also has only 5 one-star and one two-star. In terms of 2-Michelin-star restaurants, we are ahead of Croatia, for example, where only one can hold this distinction. In addition, two of the domestic Michelin-starred restaurants are now located in the countryside, and one of them even has two stars on its facade.
“What is perhaps even more gratifying is that nearly 70 domestic workshops now have one of Michelin’s globally known and recognized award categories. Moreover, about two-thirds of them advertise the outstanding standard of gastronomic experiences available in our country outside the capital. All this sends a message to gastrotourists around the world that Budapest and Hungary are not only worth discovering, but also worth returning to,”
– emphasized Olivér Csendes, CEO of Visit Hungary. He added that, contrary to popular belief, the restaurants recommended in the guide do not only represent top gastronomy. Among the award categories of the world-famous French restaurant guide, noteworthy restaurants that are worth stopping for on the way can receive a Michelin recommendation. Of these, the Hungarian edition of the MICHELIN Guide currently recommends 53 to travelers nationwide. Guests can also find Bib Gourmand-labeled restaurants, typically bistros and family restaurants, offering high-quality food at a more moderate price, at 6 locations. Four Hungarian units have already earned the green Michelin star, which can be awarded to socially and environmentally sustainable gastropubs.
This year’s edition of the MICHELIN Guide Hungary can continue to inspire tens of thousands of culinary travelers to visit Hungary.
