The Farmer-Expo International Agricultural and Food Industry Exhibition will be held in Debrecen for the 34th time between August 28-30, and almost all sectors of agriculture will be represented – the organizers announced at the press conference announcing the event on Thursday at the Böszörményi út campus of the University of Debrecen (DE).

Fair director László Vaszkó recalled that for a long time it was questionable whether they would be able to hold the event this year due to the epidemics affecting the sector, primarily foot-and-mouth disease. At the same time, it is crucial for those working in agriculture to meet and learn about current issues affecting the sector, which is why they decided to hold the 34th Farmer-Expo while strictly adhering to animal health measures.

This year’s special feature is that only in Hungary there will be a breeding animal exhibition at Farmer-Expo, but professionals will also be able to get acquainted with a weed recognition software that is unique in Europe – indicated the fair director.

He highlighted: this year, about 200 exhibitors will be present at the expo, including agricultural machinery distributors, food industry companies, animal health and feed companies, as well as service providers active in the fields of soil energy management, irrigation, precision farming, agricultural architecture and alternative energy sources. During the three days of the exhibition, various variety presentations, show judging and professional presentations will also enrich the program – he added.

Tibor Szólláth, president of the Hajdú-Bihar Chamber of Agriculture, said that climate change and the loss of markets pose a serious challenge, and the sector’s freckles must be prepared for a new type of farming. The chamber informs farmers about the opportunities to participate in the professional forums of the Farmer-Expo through the village economist network, he noted.

István Szűcs, director of the DE Institute of Economics, identified the most important mission of the expo as the presentation of innovative solutions and products, the opportunity for professionals to meet, the exploration of current problems affecting the sector, and the introduction of agriculture to the public.

University professor István Komlóssy highlighted the forum dealing with the challenges facing the sheep sector among the professional conferences on animal husbandry, which will demonstrate a kind of cooperation for the future of the sector with the participation of those working in professional management, breeders, and processors.
