The National Employment Service registered the lowest number of job seekers since the change of regime in December last year. The number of job seekers was 216,082, which is a decrease of nearly 4,000 compared to the same period in 2024 and about 375,000 compared to 2010, Sándor Czomba, State Secretary for Employment Policy at the Ministry of National Economy (NGM), stated in his statement on Wednesday.

The unemployment rate has improved from 4.7 percent to 4.4 percent over the past year, so in international comparison, Hungary remains among the leaders of the European Union in terms of high employment and low unemployment, he added.

As he explained,

As a result of government measures, there are now 1 million more people working than in 2010, while the average wage has more than tripled and the minimum wage has quadrupled. As of January 1, the minimum wage increased by 11 percent, to 322,800 forints, and the guaranteed minimum wage increased by 7 percent, to 373,200 forints.

In addition, real wages have been continuously increasing for more than 2 years, while the government is implementing Europe’s largest tax reduction program, so families can manage with more and more money – he listed and added: all of this would be ruined by the Tisza Party’s brutal austerity program, which would take 1,300 billion forints from families.

The Youth Guarantee, which supports young people under 30 and the inactive, aims to find jobs as quickly as possible Plus program, and the program for those over 30, also funded by EU funds, under which job seekers receive wage subsidies, housing and travel reimbursement. So far, more than 60 thousand registered job seekers have found work through the programs, with more than 73 billion forints of EU funding.

Last March, the government launched the “From Public Employment to the Private Sector 2025.” program, the aim of which is to ensure that public employees with the appropriate motivation and qualifications can find permanent jobs in the competitive sector

– the State Secretary reminded.

The “GINOP Plusz-3.2.4-23 SME Capacity Expansion Support” program successfully supported the adaptation of employees to the labor market and significantly exceeded the set targets. The support of up to nearly 2.5 million forints for hiring a new employee improved the labor market situation of more than 3,400 employees, which clearly indicates the social and economic usefulness of the developments – the State Secretary wrote in his statement.
