Czerván: this year, 6.7 million tonnes of maize grows in the country
This year, an expected amount of 6.7 million tonnes of maize grows in Hungary, 2 million tonnes more than in the last year – Czerván György told in Budapest on Thursday, at the press conference after the Harvest Co-ordination Committee’s meeting.
Czerván György Minister of State for the Rural Development Ministry (VM), responsible for agri management said, that according to the 14 October datas, the farmers have harvested 38 percent of the total area of 1.233 million hectares.
The average yield is 5.5 tons per hectare, compared to last year’s, 4 tons per hectare average harvest. All in all, about 2.5 million tons of maize can be exported, after domestic demand is about 4.2 million tonnes. (MTI)
