The bird flu virus was also detected in Csongrád-Csanád county
After the counties of Békés and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, the presence of bird flu was also identified in the county of Csongrád-Csanád by the laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih). Specialists have liquidated the 9,500 liver duck population in the counties of Csongrád-Csanád affected by the epidemic. The animal health authority introduced additional restrictive measures due to the spread of the epidemic.
The H5N1 subtype of the highly pathogenic bird flu virus also appeared in Pusztaszer, Csongrád-Csanád county. Due to the increased mortality and nervous system symptoms in the duck farm with 9,500 ducks, the keeper suspected bird flu.
The affected stock was liquidated by the authority, and a 3 km radius protection zone and an extended surveillance (observation) zone were designated around the farm
The animal health authority introduced new restrictive measures. In the entire territory of Hungary, an introduction permit can only be issued to the non-restricted area of the districts currently affected by the restriction, if the introduced stock is transported from the given holding place only for immediate slaughter. If the epidemic continues to spread, the new measure will automatically come into force in the areas of all affected districts that are not under restrictions. The measure is valid until all restricted areas in the affected district are lifted or withdrawn. In addition, due to the current epidemiological situation, the national chief veterinarian, 2/2024. from October 11, 2024 in the high-risk counties (in the entire area of Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Hajdú-Bihar, Komárom-Esztergom and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg counties) for commercial purposes compulsory keeping of poultry kept indoors. Pursuant to this, if the enclosure is not protected from the top and sides with a bird net of sufficient strength, in that case it is mandatory to keep the animals closed in the animal housing building. In the counties concerned, it is also mandatory for farms that keep poultry for non-commercial purposes to feed and water the poultry under cover, and it is also recommended to keep these animals indoors.
Nébih always asks pet owners to exercise caution
Everything must be done in order to avoid the appearance of a large epidemic similar to previous years, and the responsibility of livestock owners plays a prominent role in this. The common goal of livestock keepers, the sector and the authorities is to eradicate the current epidemic as soon as possible and to make the country free from highly pathogenic bird flu again.
