Hungary imported less and exported more egg
According to the latest market report of the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI), data from the European Commission reveals that the European Union’s egg product import in 2018 grew by 19 percent to almost 27 thousand tons and egg product export was up 5 percent at 219 thousand tons.
Data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH) shows that in 2018 Hungary imported 17.6 percent less egg (21.2 thousand tons) but exported 14.5 percent more (9.9 thousand tons). In the EU egg cost EUR 129/100kg at the place of packaging in January 2019, 24.6 percent less than in January 2018. In Hungary we had to pay 28.1 percent less for size M+L egg at the place of packaging, HUF 25.5/piece.
In the EU the price of ‘R3’ trade category young bull was EUR 3.74/kg in January 2019, 5 percent less than a year earlier. According to KSH, there were 884.8 thousand cows in Hungary on 1 December 2018 – 1.7 percent more than a year before. In Hungary young bull’s price was HUF 770/kg in January 2019 – up more than 1 percent from the base period level. //
