The producer price of slaughter pigs has decreased compared to a year earlier
According to the Central Statistical Office (KSH), Hungary’s live pig exports decreased by 21.6 percent to 6.7 thousand tons in January-March 2025 compared to the quantity sold on the foreign market in the same period of 2024. Live pig imports fell by 45.8 percent to 10 thousand tons.

The quantity of pork sold on the international market decreased by 9.3 percent (36.3 thousand tons), while its value decreased by 15.4 percent in the observed period. The volume of pork imports was 23.2 percent (32.2 thousand tons), and its value was 24 percent lower in the first three months of 2025 than in the first three months of 2024. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs, excluding VAT and transport costs, was 805 forints/kilogram of carcass warm weight in May 2025, a decrease of 4.5 percent compared to the average price a year earlier.
