The volume and value of foreign trade in pork decreased
According to data from the Central Statistical Office, Hungary’s live pig exports increased by 4.4 percent to 22.6 thousand tons in January-August 2025 compared to the volume sold on the foreign market in the same period in 2024. The main partners were Romania, Moldova and Austria.

Live pig imports fell by 31 percent to 29.6 thousand tons in the observed period, with the largest suppliers being Slovakia, Croatia and Germany. The volume of pork sold on the international market decreased by 8.5 percent (100.2 thousand tons) and its value by 13.9 percent in January-August 2025 compared to January-August 2024. Most pork was shipped to Romania, Italy, Croatia and Slovakia. The volume of pork imports decreased by 11.6 percent (84.3 thousand tons) and the value by 10.8 percent during the same period. 70 percent of the pork came from Germany, Spain and Poland. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs, excluding VAT and transport costs, was 758 forints/kilogram of carcass warm weight in September 2025, a decrease of 5.1 percent compared to the average price a year earlier.
