The consumption of German beers in the European Union has decreased
The consumption of German beers has decreased in the European Union and Germany in the last ten years, and there was an increase only outside the European Union, according to the Tuesday report of the German Federal Statistical Office, Destatis.
Breweries based in Germany sold nearly 715.9 million liters of alcoholic beer in countries outside the European Union in 2022, 12 percent less than the previous year, but 66 percent more than the 432.4 million liters ten years earlier.
In contrast, German breweries’ beer sales in other EU countries fell by more than a quarter, or 27 percent, during these ten years: in 2022, just under 805.1 million liters were sold, compared to a good 1.1 billion liters in 2012.
From 2012 to 2022, domestic beer sales in Germany decreased by 11 percent to 7.2 billion liters, which corresponds to 83 percent of total German beer sales of 8.8 billion liters.
