A decrease in the Hungarian banana exports, domestic demand increased
Consumers prefer bananas after apples in Hungary. According to the data of the Central Statistical Office (KSH) Hungary’s banana imports has increased by 32 percent to 56.3 thousand tonnes between January-October 2015 compared to the same period of 2014.
According to the communication of the European Commission banana harvest in the EU increased to 661.4 thousand tonnes in 2015 compared to the previous year.
It may seem strange, but Hungary is a banana exporter. Banana exports increased by 5 percent to 6.4 thousand tonnes. As a result, 36 percent more bananas appeared in the Hungarian offer in the first ten months of 2015. (by our colleague)
