Retail sales in the euro area decreased in June
In both monthly and annual comparisons, retail sales in the euro area decreased in June.
According to data published on Tuesday by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, retail sales in the euro area in June fell by 0.3 percent, more than the 0.1 percent expected by analysts, and in the European Union it shrank by 0.1 percent compared to May, when in the euro area and in the EU both registered a 0.1 percent monthly traffic increase.
Compared to the previous month in the European Union, in June the retail turnover of food, beverages and tobacco products shrank by 1.0 percent, with the exception of fuel, that of non-food products stagnated, and that of fuel expanded by 0.6 percent on a monthly basis.
In a year-on-year comparison, retail sales in the euro area fell by 0.3 percent in June, following a 0.5 percent increase in May, compared to the 0.2 percent increase expected by analysts.
