Retail sales declined in the euro area
In the euro area, retail sales declined on a monthly basis, and year-on-year growth slowed significantly in December. Both figures were worse than expected.
The European Union’s statistical office, Eurostat announced on Friday that retail sales fell 3 percent month-on-month in December, after rising another 1 percent in November. Experts expected a more modest 0.5 percent monthly drop in sales in December. (MTI)
